About Me

My photo
I enjoy learning new things everyday. I love art and design. I feel it is important to always try to do what you love and try as hard as you can. Sometimes it's important to just take a big deep breath, tell yourself you can do it and leap.

I'm really all done now with my chairs.

This is the yellow chair before
The yellow chair 3rd in from Left After Rustoleum primer and oil paint

I am looking forward to reading this book-Little Bee by Chris Cleave. It will be nice to read a book for fun for once in a long time.

Oh Rainy Day

In-Progress, various stages
It rained this morning and all of last night. I didn't get the opportunity to work on my chairs anymore.

I really am enjoying this book-Vintage Modern Home by Katherine Sorrell.

Oil Painting

I started my day off working on these metal chairs. This picture was before i was completely finished priming them with Rustoleum Rusty Metal Primer. I decided to use oil based paint with these chairs, and it has turned out to be very labor intensive. Oil paint is very difficult to get off of things, takes about 8 hrs to dry, and is overall much less forgiving when there is too much on your paintbrush or it begins to drip. Waiting 8 hrs between coats really draws the process out. Also, lately, the weather here has been very rainy so obviously those days are out and anytime too close to night is not good either, due to the condensation. Tomorrow I plan to get more done and maybe even get close to finishing one of them. With all except one I plan to paint the frame a different color than the seat. I am going to use latex paint with some of the chairs. Yesterday for example, I put the 3rd coat of oil paint on one of those chairs-was very pleased with my work and a few minutes after I had left my house it began to rain. This morning I needed to use a wire brush and scrape off all the work I accomplished yesterday and will attempt fixing that chair tomorrow, if I have time.

My daughter's birthday is tomorrow.

Spent a lot of time in traffic today which wasn't very fun.

I do not collect things per se. Usually on the windowsill behind my desk or by the kitchen sink I do put little knickknacks, depending on the set up of the house. Below is the window just behind my computer-The people, I think came from a puzzle. I bought them last year in a little antique store-I really only wanted the nurse, but then I felt strange about splitting them up so I made a deal to buy them all. The etruscan horse I found at an estate sale. The elephant all the way to the right I found at my favorite antique store. The lampshade goes to a 1950's lamp that I keep on my desk, it is fiberglass and it gives off the most warm beautiful light.

I have a small collection of vintage fisher price little people. Below is a photograph from the last house I lived in. These little people hung out over the kitchen sink. The orange and red bodied plastic people look really cool when the sun hits them. Some of these Little People are wood and some plastic, they vary in age.

I bought this trunk a few months ago one weekend when the kids and I were driving around. Outside the Junk store was this trunk-it was 10.00 and it was stinky and the lining was a blue mothball laden paper. I thought, why would my daughter want this stinky thing? Unsure what to do with it-I left it in the back of my station wagon for a couple of months. When the weather became increasingly warm I could faintly smell the moth ball smell wafting through my car when I was driving. Eventually I decided that I would need to take it out of my car for practical reasons because it was hard to do things like grocery shop.

The kids and I sprayed the paper lining with a 10% bleach mixture and scraped it off with putty knives. After a couple of days I knew it was dry. I vacuumed the Trunk out with my Miele. Then I got out my toolbox and  I primed the inside with primer and painted it soon after. It took 3 coats of semi gloss paint. This was the result-

I painted the outside two different colors- and this also took about 3 coats of paint each-I used paint I had from various other projects, didn't buy any specifically for this project.

We will do another one in different colors when we find another. I think this project came out pretty nice, not too bad for 10.00 and a little elbow grease.

Hello

I am starting this blog just for the fun of it. I know absolutely nothing about online blogging but greatly enjoy reading other blogs and find the content inspirational. As summer is coming to a beginning I am exploring a whole bunch of new things-like painting furniture and treasure hunting with my pals in our spare time.
